Our final project for the Sun/Solar theme was Sun Babies. The original idea I found on Pinterest involved needle felting, which I had neither the materials nor equipment to actually do. Instead, this Mama Frog did what Frogs do best and improvised. Digging deep into the box of felt, and deep into the box of random craftiness, I found enough felt colors for each Frog to make a unique colored sun, with a unique face. Many of the little frogs chose to use clay faces. Lizard Breath embroidered her face on, and Ray Bear made a clay face with an embroidered baby body. As you can see in the photos below, I used a CD for the yellow part of the sun and a bowl to mark out the dimensions of the rest of the sun. Through the photos, you should be able to see how I used the two circles as guidelines and free-handed rays. When I was finished, I had 5 complete sun templates.
Next, the Frogs took orange DMC thread and stitched the yellow sun onto the darker colored rays. Papa Frog was home for once and helped The Boy and I helped Scoot. Once the suns were mostly sewn together, the Frogs lightly stuffed them, glued on their faces and added any stitched details.
